Roger's First Term Accomplishments


Creating a Culture of Excellence

  • Designated Increasing Literacy as the district’s North Star and focused all school resources on improving reading levels

  • Reduced Central Office Funding by $12.5 million and dedicated these resources to the classroom

  • Improved Pay and Support for Teachers – Under Roger’s leadership, our 3,000 teachers received multiple pay increases and back to school grants for classroom supplies

  • Partnered with Savannah Mayor Van Johnson to increase attendance and cut down on truancy

  • Reduced the tax burden on homeowners by:

    • Reducing the millage rate in 2024 and 2025

    • Leading efforts to renew E-SPLOST 

  • Secured funding to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students

  • Ensuring every student reads at their grade level

  • Making sure our students are in school to learn, not chronically absent

  • Reducing central office spending and returning it to the classroom

  • Increasing Salaries for High Performing Teachers

  • Providing Transportation for All Students

  • Lowering our Property Taxes

  • Involving Parents in their child’s education

Roger's Story

A National Leader in Child Advocacy

Roger Moss was elected as the President of the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Public Education in 2022 and is seeking his second term. Roger is a national leader in child advocacy and education. He has spent the past 25 years working to enrich the lives of young people and helping them to lead choice-filled lives.

  

He co-founded and served as the Executive Director of the Savannah Children’s Choir to provide musical opportunity and mentorship to underserved children. He is enormously proud that 99% of choir members attended college.

President Moss also co-founded Savannah Classical Academy (SCA), a tuition-free Title 1 public charter school, which serves primarily lower-income families. SCA is consistently recognized as one the best public schools in Georgia.
